Everything in Sight
by Mary Eliza - Songwriter, Vox & Instrumentation
This song makes me smile every time I play it. I wrote it when I was falling in love with somebody, and in that free fall I was also falling deeper in love with myself. The song, for me, is about recognizing how a deep, pure love can feel both so uplifting and beautiful when experiencing it with someone else, and it can also highlight other beauty in the world and in our own lives. "Love is everything in sight."
it just keeps on getting better, footsteps on the floor
and your hand is on my waist as you walk me to the door
i fill up both my lungs 'cuz that's what people do
and i float out the window, my body a balloon
i fly over the city, and right by your house
where you're hanging out the top floor, saying 'baby please come down'
but i want to taste the rain, i want to move at the pace of clouds
i want to be the main reason you come around
i hear you calling 'honey, you're up too high'
but i think that that's a problem for you and not for i
well i guess i thought that love was nothing more than a kiss goodnight
now i'm pretty sure love is everything in sight
Mary Eliza, Portland-based singer/songwriter, grew up playing music in a family band in Oakland, CA, and has spent the years since traveling, living in her van, and busking on city sidewalks. Mary’s artistry is that of a garden, where growth and death happen simultaneously, where something bright rises and blooms in dark places, where you can hold the whole experience of heartbreak, chronic illness, and overflowing love all at once.
