Mary, Mary (Part One)
by Ellayo
"Mary, Mary (Part One)" comes from Ellayo's first EP, For Miriam. The project was a narrative meditation on bravery through space and breath with each piece recorded live in sound-specific locations throughout the U.S.— a church in Connecticut, a barn in Pennsylvania, and a cabin in Ojai, California. Drawing inspiration from Gregorian chants, conventional lullabies, breathe techniques from birth doula training, and kulning (traditional Swedish cow herding calls), this sleep song features a binaural delta-brainwave underpinning haunting vocals, but no other electronically created sounds.
Ellayo is the vocal project of Natalia Schwien Scott, an herbalist, wildlife rescue & rehabilitation apprentice, and PhD Candidate at Harvard University.
