A Ship in the Harbor, The Waves of the Ocean

by Malena Ida, Cris Williamson (original lyricist)

Malena has long treasured singing and falling asleep to the sound of "Like a Ship in the Harbor" (the first verse, written by Cris Williamson). She learned the song at Kroka, where she felt called to adventure and a life of integrity. She sung it to many students after long strenuous days, wishing it were longer. Now aboard her own ship, she has added an original verse and looks forward to discovering how the song continues to grow. For now, she sings it to her infant nephew at nap time.

Like a ship in the harbor,
like a mother and child,
like a light in the darkness,
I'll hold you a while.
We'll rock on the water,
I'll cradle you dear,
and hold you while angels,
sing you to sleep.

Like the waves of the Ocean,
like the wind in the trees,
like the moon shining brightly,
on a cold winter's eve.
I'll sing to you dearly,
I'll rock you so sweet,
and promise to be here,
when you wake from your sleep.

Malena Ida dreams of a slow life, centered around family and adventure. She relishes storytelling in all its forms, spending her free time writing aboard her and her boyfriend's boat. // Malena's Substack
