i dream her housed in a good nap. i dream her shoulder light as wind. i dream her elbow poised the way she wants. i dream her midair boxing out a rebound. i dream her showing me how to shoot a three pointer with a single finger. i dream her bank account unnecessary. i dream her landlords turned to shrimps, maybe rocks. i dream her ashing her blunt in the estuary they tried to name rikers. i dream her boot planted in the dust of that place. its howl in her bones suddenly quiet. i dream her on that island, watched, warded by cormorant, egret, every creature above just her breath whispered to wings. i dream her losing to me in tekken. i dream her in a field that’s just slim jims. i dream for her when she cannot. i dream her blood no one’s but hers. i dream its sound. river rushing, willed to the miracle, to each morning of her life. i dream her the woman she already is. i dream her as her own daughter, carrying herself skyward, a woman, a girl, a night sky healing on her back. i dream her spasming hand held by that crisp air. stilled by a thread only she can see. singular, it reels us towards that world she deserves. i dream that world already here. i dream my feet learning the dance of its gravity. her gravity. every worthy thing there is falling as fruit.
